You are going to LAUGH! You are going to then wonder if these conversations actually happened. You are going to wonder what kind of guy would actually say these things to his family.
The answer is simple—yes, these conversations did actually happen. They occurred over a period of roughly 5 years, mainly at my dinner table. I took them verbatim and posted them on Facebook so that all my friends could get a good laugh.
I must be honest with you, some of you will are going to laugh and say things like “…that sounds like something I would say or want to say” others are going to think that I am a horrible parent. I am ok with either thought process.
What I hope is that after laughing, scratching your head and wondering what is wrong with Jay Reid, you realize that you need to create more of your own Dinner Conversations.

Dinner Conversations was a really fun read. We all remember dinners around the family table and Jason Ried turns those dinners into comical stories. If you haven't been following him on Facebook, please do for more funny stories. Ried's stories are great for the entire family and you'll have a lot of fun reading them together. I also love how the author leaves you with advice on how to begin your own family dinners! So, grab a book and get to reading! You'll be glad you did!

Dinner Conversations is a funny collections of vignettes of conversations among a family raising four kids, and a look at the real world of what is said and what goes on in the home. Jason's stories are so true of any of us who struggled bringing up a few kids in the beginning of the 21st century. Funny that it reminded me of some of the things that I'd forgotten about our own conversations around the table - funny, ludicrous, laughable (now!) and poignant. Parenting is no perfect science and a little humor, sarcasm about it makes for a great read. Seems like every family has the conniving kid, one who's a little slower on the uptake, and one who is always pulling the pranks, even if that person is the father! Thanks for a good laugh and walk down memory lane!
This is a funny collection of short stories or conversations had between the author and his family over the course of years. The range of the author's children's ages also add to the dynamics. To read the reactions from the different ages shows that no matter what age from younger children to teenagers; there is a gap in the thought and conversation process between child and adult.
I can relate to a lot of these conversations from my childhood as well with my parents. Although, my sister could probably relate more to these conversations as she was more of the wild child. She was always trying to push the edge to see just how far she could go. Now as an adult, I can relate to these stories from the adult point of view as I communicate with my nephews.
There was a moment when the author's two boys were talking and the one says "You are no longer my brother but my sibling." Or there was the time when the family was on vacation and was introduced to the "bidet"; or other sibling moments, and parent versus child moments. There are so many funny conversations that it is hard to pick just one. This book would make a great family read.

As a husband and a father to two teens, I can totally relate to this book. It is very funny and makes my family life seem reassuringly sane.
As a parent of two teenagers, I can totally appreciate where the author is coming from. It's funny, sometimes a bit wacky and sometimes totally crazy. It's was a fun read for our family during dinner. It sure made us laugh.
I've loved reading Jay's Facebook Posts about his Dinner Conversations with his family over the years, but as I keep reading this book, I realize I missed most of them when they were happening. I'm glad they're now in a book so I can continue to enjoy them. This light hearted book is full of conversations that all parents have in their heads, Jay just makes them vocal and real. Definitely worth reading!!!
